Live images from the nest

Wolfsburg's animal fans are delighted: the so-called "stork cam" in Warmenau is back online and provides up-close-and-personal images from the stork nest there. On the YouTube channel of the city and on wolfsburg.de/storchencam the Adebar everyday life can be looked at. What is new is that viewers can now follow the stork's life via livestream. Previously, this was only possible via still images.

"The stork cam enjoys extraordinary popularity and meets with much interest among the population. Unfortunately, among other things, technical problems had caused the webcam to be out of operation last year. Ensuring a transmission from such a position also understandably brings with it some challenges. That's why I'm glad that my team has found solutions here so that we can once again offer this nice service free of charge," explains Lars M. Vollmering, head of the responsible communications department.

The history of the stork nest began in 1992, and the two storks known as Johanna and Johannes bred there until 2005. The stork nest in Warmenau developed into one of the "most productive" in all of Lower Saxony: in this period alone, the two raised a total of 52 young storks. At that time, this was the reason for the environmental office of the city of Wolfsburg to install a webcam together with the municipal communication. Since 2005, the nest has been used by alternating pairs of storks. Since the beginning of February, a pair of storks has now taken possession of the nest. The daily life of the birds can now be followed in detail online again.
