High enrollment rate at grammar schools

Secondary schools in Wolfsburg enjoy great popularity

Compared to the previous year, the number of school registrations for the fifth grades of the coming school year has risen again slightly, as there are also more children in the current fourth grades than in the previous year. So far, a total of 1,403 children have registered for the fifth grade. Further registrations are expected before the start of the school year.

The comprehensive school and grammar school types in particular were in high demand and therefore, as in previous school years, held lottery procedures. In this respect, Wolfsburg is no different from other large cities. In this year's registration phase, the Phoenix Gymnasium, the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium, the Ratsgymnasium and the Heinrich-Nordhoff-Gesamtschule were chosen by more pupils than there were free school places available in each case. According to Lower Saxony law, some of these schools therefore had to hold lottery procedures, which also affected pupils from Wolfsburg.

Not all pupils were able to obtain a place at the desired school. However, it is ensured that all Wolfsburg pupils receive a school place at the desired type of school, as the city, in cooperation with the Regional State Office for Schools and Education, ensures that a sufficient number of school places are available for all Wolfsburg pupils at all types of school in the coming school year.

A total of 608 pupils registered for the 600 school places available at the five public grammar schools, including 104 pupils from neighboring districts. The two public comprehensive schools were also in high demand: as things stand, 331 pupils want to attend this type of school in the next school year, including 47 pupils from neighboring districts.

There are still places available at the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, the Leonardo da Vinci Grund- und Gesamtschule, the Wolfsburg Oberschule and the Hauptschule and Realschule. Late registration appointments at secondary schools will take place up to and including May 7. Parents whose children have not yet received a school place can contact the Wolfsburg School Advisory Service on (05361) 28-1129 if they have any questions regarding school choice or school registration.
