City center on the way to a new future

Start of demolition work for the first construction phase of the BRAWO arcades

The official start of demolition work for the first construction phase at Porschestraße 60-66 marks the start of one of the most important urban development projects: the BRAWO Arkaden. A sustainable, mixed-use quarter with modern apartments, retail, services and green recreational areas is being created - right in the heart of the city center.

Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann emphasized at the construction launch event: "With the BRAWO Arkaden of Volksbank BRAWO, we are taking an important step towards our major goal: a lively, inviting and attractive city center - for all Wolfsburg residents and for our guests. Porschestraße will soon undergo a noticeable transformation. The BRAWO Arkaden will soon be a visible sign of this."

Start of the first construction phase

The event, attended by around 100 guests, marked the symbolic start of the first construction phase, which will include 82 modern rental apartments and around 4,500 square meters of retail space. In the coming months, the existing buildings will first be demolished. The new construction will start immediately afterwards. Completion of the first construction phase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028. Planning for the second construction phase will start in parallel. The first construction phase will be implemented by the general contractor Köster GmbH, which is responsible for the turnkey realization.

An urban quarter for tomorrow - diverse and urban

The BRAWO Arkaden project is a milestone in our city center development. The new complex is intended to bring more quality of life, diversity of use and urban attractiveness to the city center. Claudia Kayser, Head of the Wolfsburg branch of Volksbank BRAWO, says: "We are not only creating urgently needed living and working space in the city center, but also new places for people to meet and interact. Our aim is to have a positive impact on the cityscape and make Wolfsburg even more liveable."

The Müller and H&M stores will remain open at their current location during the ongoing construction work. The stores in the Schillergalerie are not affected by the current work. The parking garage in Schillerstraße will also remain open for public use. Despite all traffic management and construction site logistics measures, temporary restrictions due to delivery traffic, noise or changed routes cannot be completely avoided. "We ask residents, passers-by and tenants for their understanding for unavoidable disruptions. Of course, we will do our best to keep them to a minimum," continues Kayser.

Sustainable urban development

The BRAWO Arkaden will be built in several construction phases on a total above-ground area of around 40,000 square meters and will set standards in sustainable urban development. The entire project is being planned in accordance with the requirements of the EU Taxonomy Regulation and is aiming for DGNB Gold certification. The targeted energy efficiency is even 10% below the KfW40 requirements. Extensive roof and façade greening, a biodiversity concept and low-pollutant building materials will improve the climate, air quality and biodiversity in the district. Green spaces, a landscaped inner courtyard, play and exercise areas as well as bicycle and car parking spaces will also be created.

The development of the BRAWO Arkaden was accompanied from the outset by early public and official participation, a successful architectural competition and the creation of a new development plan. Recommendations from the city administration, environmental protection requirements and extensive specialist reports have already been incorporated into the planning.
