Exhibition tour to mark the 150th anniversary of the Fallersleben volunteer fire department
The current exhibition "The fascination of the fire department. The Fallersleben Volunteer Fire Brigade through the ages 1875 to 2025" at the Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben Museum in the M2K. On Thursday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m., Fallersleben firefighter Jürgen Koch will present the exhibition in more detail on a tour. Admission and the tour are free.
Among other things, the firefighter will explain the conditions that led to the disaster 50 years ago. Many fire departments from all over Germany, the German army and even a fire-fighting plane from France took part in the extinguishing work. The Fallersleben fire brigade also came to the rescue. However, the operation ended fatally for the three comrades Helmut Wille, Gerhard Schlie and Kurt Fischer and two other firefighters from Hohenhameln. How this could have happened will be explained on this evening.
The exhibition provides information in the form of objects, documents and an interactive fire department experience: historical and modern fire hoses, old fire engines and other equipment as well as historical uniforms can be seen and touched. Miniature models, lovingly designed down to the smallest detail, represent the Fallersleben fire brigade's fleet almost "in the original" - from its beginnings, when horses still pulled the hand-operated fire engine, to the turntable ladder used today. A black box gives visitors an "insight" into a fire department operation during a house fire. A film documents how the youngest members of the children's fire department, from the age of 6, train in a playful way.
