Be careful with water
Drought continues - we can all do something
Spring was dry, summer is not getting any better: because it has rained significantly less than we are used to so far this year, water is becoming an increasingly important resource. We are therefore calling on people to use water more consciously in their everyday lives - even if the drinking water supply is currently secure.

We are once again experiencing a summer in which rainfall is far below average. The groundwater levels in Wolfsburg are still at a "normal-low" level - but they are falling. That's why we should all act now to protect our most important resource.
"The need to use our resources sparingly has become increasingly clear, not least due to the development of the climate in recent years," says First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide. "Everyone is called upon to make a contribution to climate protection and to ensure the sustainable use of water as the basis of life."
Tips for saving water:
- Use rainwater: If you collect rainwater in a barrel, you can use it to water flowers and flower beds.
- Water correctly: Best early in the morning and directly at the roots - less evaporation this way.
- Mulch and watering can: Spreading grass clippings or bark mulch over the beds reduces evaporation.
- No private pool: Public outdoor pools or the Allersee lake are better alternatives.
- Flush button and stop button: Effective when flushing the toilet - just like turning off the water when brushing your teeth or soaping up.
- Fully load the washing machine: This also applies to the dishwasher. Quick programs also save water.
- Reuse vegetable washing water: For balcony plants, for example.
What's next?
There are currently no plans to issue a general decree restricting water consumption. However, if the situation gets worse, we reserve the right to take this step.
