Wolfsburg presents new city logo
The city of Wolfsburg presents its new logo - designed on the basis of historical roots, developed for the future. The new logo combines tradition, identity and modernity.
Already enthusiastically received as the 2023 campaign logo, it will now become an integral part of the city's image. A fresh look with deep meaning.

"The new logo is a strong symbol for a Wolfsburg that knows its history - and uses it to shape the future. Design is never just a form, but always also a message: the deliberate return to a symbol steeped in tradition, combined with a fresh, contemporary look, represents the balance we are striving for - between continuity and new beginnings. Especially in times of change, we need visual orientation and identity. Our new logo is therefore not just a design project, but an expression of our self-image as a modern, cosmopolitan and at the same time firmly rooted city. We would also like to thank Volkswagen for the opportunity to use it," explains Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann.
"Wolfsburg is a dynamic city that is constantly evolving. It is therefore logical to change the city logo after a certain period of time and give it a new impetus. It was particularly important to us in the team to create a high level of recognizability and an emotional connection as the city's sender. Being able to fall back on a logo that is already well-known among the population and has such historical appeal is of course a gift from a communications perspective," adds Lars M. Vollmering, Head of Strategic Communications and Civic Engagement.
A sign with history
The new logo has not been reinvented, but rediscovered. Inspired by the city coat of arms of the 1950s, which in turn goes back to the coat of arms of the von Bartensleben family, it brings Wolfsburg's history to life in a modern way. In the 1950s, Volkswagen incorporated the coat of arms into the design of its vehicles - including on the steering wheel of the Beetle. This made it known worldwide and associated it with Wolfsburg. The well-known logo also adorns the mayor's chain of office.
An idea that stays
The logo was used prominently again for the first time for the city's 85th birthday in 2023 - as a campaign logo. The response was so positive that the decision was made: this logo can stay and replaces the "howling wolf", which is going into well-deserved retirement. The new logo will now become a permanent part of the City of Wolfsburg's visual identity. Fresh colors, clear lines and a modern design meet historical substance. The logo thus stands for a Wolfsburg that values its past and future in equal measure.
