Honorary citizenship for Hans Dieter Pötsch

Volkswagen Supervisory Board Chairman honored for his commitment in and for Wolfsburg

Hans Dieter Pötsch becomes a new honorary citizen. At its meeting on October 1, the Wolfsburg City Council decided to bestow the city's highest honor on the long-serving Volkswagen Board of Management member and current Chairman of the Supervisory Board. The ceremonial presentation will take place on December 1 as part of the traditional Advent meeting between the city and Volkswagen.

A life for Volkswagen - and for Wolfsburg

As Board Member for Finance and Controlling, Hans Dieter Pötsch played a key role in shaping the economic stability of the Group from 2003 to 2015. Since 2015, he has been at the helm of the company as Chairman of the Supervisory Board - his course was characterized by foresight, calm and responsibility, especially in challenging times.

Many decisions made under his leadership not only gave the company stability, but also secured important investments in the Wolfsburg location. For us, this meant an economic future, jobs and prospects.

Personally committed

Pötsch lives with his wife in Wolfsburg - in the heart of the city, in the middle of the action. Whether at cultural events, sporting events or social engagements: he is present, listens, talks. This personal commitment to Wolfsburg makes all the difference.

As Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Volkswagen Art Foundation, he has helped shape the development of the art museum into an internationally recognized address. He has also been involved in VfL Wolfsburg for years as a member of the Supervisory Board. And last but not least, he is a co-founder of the Wolfsburg Community Foundation.

An award for urban design

"Volkswagen's commitment to Wolfsburg bears a clear signature: that of Hans Dieter Pötsch," says Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann. "In times of great change, he took on responsibility and gave the plant and the city security. Hans Dieter Pötsch is one of the key shapers of change and realignment and thus one of the fathers of Wolfsburg's economic and social strength."

Hans Dieter Pötsch himself says: "I would like to express my sincere thanks for the special honor of being made an honorary citizen of this unique city. Wolfsburg and the well-being of this city have become extremely dear to me and my wife."

In good company

With the award of honorary citizenship, Hans Dieter Pötsch joins a special list of important Wolfsburg personalities who have shaped our city - including Heinrich Nordhoff, Carl Hahn, Ferdinand Piëch and many others who have helped to shape Wolfsburg's history. Hans Dieter Pötsch becomes the 24th honorary citizen of Wolfsburg.
