Art talk during the lunch break
The next art talk during the lunch break will take place on Thursday, November 6, 12:00 noon, at the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg (Wolfsburg Castle). Marcus Körber, director of the Städtische Galerie, will talk to Dr. Justin Hoffmann, director of the Kunstverein Wolfsburg, about the beginnings of the Wolfsburg art scene and the formative role of the Schloßstraße 8 artists' group. The occasion is the current exhibition Helga Pape: Energien. Works 1964-2017, which sheds light on key developments in these early years of art in Wolfsburg. The cost of the event and lunch is 12 euros. Please register by November 2 by emailing aufsicht-galerie@stadt.wolfsburg.de or calling 05361281012. As a subscriber, no additional registration is required.
Special attention will be paid to a sensational event from the city's cultural history: in 1961, during the awarding of the second Wolfsburg Art Prize, etchings by Helga Pape were painted over by the Austrian artist Arnulf Rainer - an incident that made national headlines as Wolfsburg's first major art scandal. This provocative gesture not only challenged the perception of avant-garde art, but also became an important impetus for Pape's artistic work and her role within Schloßstraße 8.
