China's Consul General visits the town hall

LIN Dong exchanges views with Mayor Dennis Weilmann

As part of his inaugural visit to Wolfsburg, we welcomed the Chinese Consul General LIN Dong to the town hall. He was accompanied by Consul JIN Wei, Head of the Political Department, and Consul WANG Hao, Head of the Economic Department. LIN Dong took up his post at the Chinese Consulate General in Hamburg in September 2025.

After the official welcome by Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann, LIN Dong signed the guest book of the city of Wolfsburg. "I am very pleased about the Consul General's visit and our intensive exchange. We cooperate with our four Chinese partner and friendship cities of Changchun, Dalian, Jiading and Nanhai in the fields of culture, youth development, sport and business. China is an important and essential partner for us in Wolfsburg, particularly in the area of economic relations," emphasized Dennis Weilmann.

A diplomat with experience

LIN Dong was born in Fuzhou, in the Chinese province of Fujian. Before taking up his new post in Hamburg, he was Deputy Head of the Department for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Partnership with four cities

For many years, we have maintained close relations with the four Chinese cities of Changchun (since 2006), Dalian (2010), Jiading (2015) and Nanhai (2016). These partnerships stand for regular exchange - not only in the economic sphere, but also in cultural and social interaction.

Around 400 people with Chinese citizenship currently live in Wolfsburg (as of September 2025). By comparison, there were around 340 at the end of 2020.

Looking to the future: China 2026 round table

A further step towards strengthening German-Chinese city partnerships has already been decided: Wolfsburg and Braunschweig will jointly host the "China Round Table" in 2026. The event format is intended to provide a platform for those responsible from German municipalities to share their experiences and ideas in confidence.
