Information on the measures

  • 3x3 Basketball

As part of the participation formats for inner city development, many Wolfsburg residents wanted more sports and play facilities in the city center. As part of the "Porschestraße usage manual", various offers are to be tested at different locations during the summer months.

In summer 2025, the trend sport 3x3 basketball, which has been popular since the last Olympic Games, can be tested at Nordkopf.
No ball with you? You can spontaneously borrow a basketball from the "Haltestelle" youth center right next door: https://jugendraumgeben.de/haltestelle/

Unlike traditional basketball, in 3x3 two teams of three (instead of five) players play for just one basket. There are hardly any breaks in the maximum ten-minute game. It goes back and forth almost continuously. The team in possession of the ball has a maximum of twelve seconds to attack.

The team that is leading at the end of the game or has already scored 21 points first wins. In the event of a tie, the game goes into overtime. The first team to score two points wins.

  • Boulder block

As part of the participation formats for inner city development, many Wolfsburg residents wanted more sports and play facilities in the city center. As part of the "Porschestraße usage manual", various offers are to be tested at different locations during the summer months.

In summer 2025, the urban trend sport of bouldering in particular can also be tested on a small scale opposite C&A in Porschestraße.

The term bouldering is derived from the English word "boulder" and means climbing without a rope at jump height - i.e. a height from which it is still possible to jump without risk of injury. Bouldering is a separate discipline of sport climbing and has undergone rapid development in recent years. This climbing discipline is all about solving problems, i.e. reading boulders correctly. Therefore, not only physical fitness is required, but also mental strength, because often the first attempt does not work.

  • Bouncing games

As part of the participation formats for inner city development, many Wolfsburg residents wanted more sports and play facilities in the city center. As part of the "Porschestraße usage manual", various offers are to be tested at different locations during the summer months.

In summer 2025, temporary bouncy and floor games in the Forum and in front of the City-Galerie will invite people to jump, laugh and let off steam.

Heaven and hell or animal parkour? Creativity knows no bounds - so in April 2025, the motto was "Invent your own bouncy games!" and submit them to the city. The designs submitted by families and school classes were then viewed and evaluated by Wolfsburg children and young people. The winning designs will be temporarily installed in Porschestraße. A repeat of the submission of bouncy and movement games and their implementation in Porschestraße is planned for 2026.

  • Participation square - There's room here!

As part of the participation formats for inner city development, many Wolfsburg residents wanted to see more revitalization in the city centre. In addition to professional event offerings, the diverse club life and voluntary work should also be given a space in the city center. As part of the "Porschestraße usage manual", an area on the glass roof of Hugo-Bork-Platz was marked to actively draw the attention of actors with non-commercial, primarily religious or political content to its free use. Together with the city's public order office, the city management supports the implementation and necessary applications.

  • Mobile green room

As part of the participation formats for inner city development, many Wolfsburg residents wanted more greenery in the city center. As part of the "Porschestraße usage manual", the so-called mobile green room is to be tested at various locations during the summer months.

Porschestraße heats up quickly in summer, so more greenery and seating in the shade is needed in future. However, as there are a lot of cables in Porschestraße and the fire department needs to be able to access many of the buildings day and night, we cannot plant more trees, shrubs and flowers directly, even if we wanted to. A first step towards a greener Porschestraße was already taken in 2022 with the mobile greenery. But what is still missing are inviting green seating areas. With the mobile green room as a vertical garden, a cool, green and shady lounge will be created opposite C&A in the summer of 2025.

To make Wolfsburg even livelier, more inviting and more attractive for its citizens and guests, the city of Wolfsburg is setting aside a special budget of 550,000 euros for both 2025 and 2026. Following an expert review, these funds will be used to prepare and implement proposals such as a safety concept with retractable bollards and more pleasant lighting, more greenery and a drinking fountain in northern Porschestraße, a disposition fund to financially support private commitment, a selfie photo point and experiencing the urban development of tomorrow through augmented reality. Together with the measures that have already been completed, are currently being implemented or are planned using the city budget, subsidies or private investment, they form the City-Sofort program.

"We are making targeted investments in the future of our city center. By upgrading our city center, we are not only creating attractive places to spend time, but also strengthening retail, gastronomy and social interaction. Wolfsburg should be a place where people enjoy spending time - today and in the future," emphasizes Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann.

"Forward-looking urban planning ensures liveable neighborhoods and attractive public urban spaces. With the proposed measures, we are increasing the quality of stay and making our city center fit for climate change," says First City Councillor and City Planning Councillor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide.

Jens Hofschröer, Head of Digital and Economic Affairs, sees the investments as a decisive economic factor: "An attractive city center is the heart of a city. A joint, determined commitment, the implementation of immediate measures and investments are essential for an attractive city center. As Managing Director of Wolfsburg Wirtschaft und Marketing GmbH (WMG), he also refers to the varied program of events: "Our events create additional occasions for the whole family and make an important contribution to our common goal of getting more people to spend more time in the city centre again."

City center development is one of Wolfsburg's future topics. In order to upgrade the city center, projects have already been completed, are being implemented or are in the planning stage in many places between the north and south ends. Areas throughout the city center have been unsealed and mobile greenery and additional street furniture have been installed. A pop-up playground was set up at Nordkopf. Further measures such as a 3x3 basketball court, a boulder block and bouncy games will soon be added in Porschestraße. These measures are being financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) via the Resilient City Centers funding programme.

With the start of construction of the Medical Office by the Vespermann Real Estate Group as the first visible sign of the development of the Nordkopfquartier Mitte, the appearance of the city center is already changing. Construction of the BRAWO Arkaden is due to start this year, and intensive planning is underway for the development of BRAWO City and the redesign of Kleistpark and Rathausplatz. Taken together, all of these measures will significantly change the face of Porschestraße in the future.
