Migrant Parents Network launches in Wolfsburg
Working together for educational equality in our city

Talking to each other, learning from each other
In the morning, the Parents' Info World was all about practical information on education, upbringing and participation - low-threshold and multilingual. This was followed by a varied program with presentations and a panel discussion, in which Prof. Dr. Alisha M. B. Heinemann's contribution on the topic of discrimination-sensitive educational partnerships provided plenty of food for thought.
Politicians were also represented: Minister of Social Affairs Dr. Andreas Philippi and Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann made it clear in their welcoming speeches how important parental involvement is.
Minister Philippi said: "Participation in the education system is fundamental for equal coexistence and equal opportunities for immigrant families. For this to succeed, however, parents and children must be familiar with our education system. The Migrant Parents Network does indispensable work in this area, providing low-threshold services to support immigrant families on their way to nursery and school."
Parents take center stage
At the heart of the event, however, were the parents themselves: Zahra Abbassi, Ashwija Mahadev, Olga Vykhodtsevska, Tamari Gvelesiani and Mohamed Ali Zaizaa gave very personal accounts of their experiences and challenges in the German education system - and showed how much strength there is in joint commitment.
Wolfsburg as an active part of MEN
We are proud that Wolfsburg is now an official MEN location - supported by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Migrantinnen, Migranten und Flüchtlinge in Niedersachsen (amfn) e.V.
Represented locally by Dr. Anwar Hadeed (Managing Director) and Sabrina Zourelidis (Project Coordinator), the network stands for greater visibility, participation and educational equality.
Iris Bothe, Head of Youth, Education, Integration and Social Affairs for the City of Wolfsburg, looks to the future with confidence: "In future, the network in Wolfsburg will support parents even more: with low-threshold, multilingual information on educational topics, through new opportunities for exchange and with the aim of sustainably strengthening the participation of migrant parents in parent representatives."
