Information for homeowners

The own four walls bring some obligations with them and make the one or other contact with the authorities necessary.

Waste disposal

Wolfsburg Waste Management and Street Cleaning is responsible for the disposal of Wolfsburg's waste. You can find out when the green garbage can is collected, which form is required to order a bin, the opening hours of the waste disposal center and how to make an appointment for bulky waste online on the WAS website.

Do you own a property and need older building documents? All building files are stored in the building file archive of the City of Wolfsburg. Requirements for access and fees are explained in more detail here.

In addition to property tax, property taxes also include fees for waste and street cleaning as well as wastewater charges (including garden water meters). In order to offer increased service to citizens, property taxes are collected centrally by the Finance division. The fees collected are then passed on in a further step to the actual service providers for waste disposal, WAS, and to WEB as the service provider for drainage.

Once a new building is connected to the sewer system, hardly anyone gives much thought to their wastewater system. However, to ensure that the wastewater systems function smoothly, especially as the pipes get older, they must be checked at regular intervals to ensure that they are in good condition.

The various divisions and subsidiaries of the City of Wolfsburg have the task of ensuring that the green spaces in the city area are maintained, the roads are in a passable condition and the street lighting is guaranteed. However, the employees cannot be everywhere in the city at the same time.

In order for a developed property to be used for building purposes by its residents, it is necessary to develop it, i.e. to connect it to the existing infrastructure. Development and road improvement contributions are due for the initial connection and subsequent renovation work on roads and paths.

Property owners are generally responsible for cleaning the sidewalk in front of their house. They may also be responsible for street cleaning. This must be done every 14 days in accordance with the regulations of the public order office. The cleaning obligation applies all year round in the period from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

The year-round street cleaning obligation for property owners also includes snow clearing and gritting in winter. The property owner must ensure that road users can pass the adjacent sidewalk or roads without accidents. A flyer provides information on the scope and nature of snow clearing and gritting obligations.
